Hate speech or free speech: You have to pay to read tweets

Elon Musk, the new CEO and owner of the micro-blogging platform Twitter, relaunched Twitter’s creators’ subscription program.

The new Twitter scheme will allow users to monetise their tweets and build a business in the application.

It’s the re-naming of its “Super Follows” initiative.

The new initiative will reduce the entry barrier in the app and will allow more users to sign-up and begin taking in money for their content.

Under the Super Follows initiative, only those users can monetise their tweets with 10K followers, but with the new subscription program, the limit has been reduced to 500.

But Twitter has some rules that creators have to comply with before charging anything from their readers.

The creators must have tweeted 25 times in the last 30 days.
The creators must be above 18.
Currently available only in the US, but people from all over the world can sign on to be a subscriber.

What are the charges users can charge from their subscribers?
The creators have the option to charge $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 per month for access to their exclusive elements. The best part of the new initiative is all the revenue earned is passed to the creator for the first year.

Just tap on “Monetization” in settings.”

In that thread he further said, “For the next 12 months, Twitter will keep none of the money.

You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70% for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30%) and ~92% on web (could be better, depending on payment processor).

After first year, iOS & Android fees drop to 15% and we will add a small amount on top of that, depending on volume.

We will also help promote your work. Our goal is to maximize creator prosperity.

At any point, you can leave our platform and take your work with you. Easy in, easy out.”
